Goalkeeper Antonio Rodriguez is one of the highlights of the Tijuana club. The Mexican international made six saves during the match, five of which were within the penalty area, in a game completely dominated by Leon.
Tijuana secured a 2-1 victory at home against Toluca, but the team’s offense paled in comparison to their performance at Estadio Caliente. The Aztec Dog team managed only five shots in the match, with just one on target during their encounter with Los Panzas Verdes.
Miguel Herrera fielded the same starting eleven as against Toluca and introduced Domingo Branco, Efrain Alvarez, Lucas Rodriguez, and Lucas Cavallini in the second half. It was all in vain against Leon, who controlled possession and the tempo of the game.
The Solos’ defensive performance was commendable, with Nicolas Diaz, Kevin Balanta, and Francisco Contreras putting on an excellent display. The trio combined for 11 clearances and 9 interceptions during the match, and Antonio Rodriguez’s performance in front of the goal was particularly impressive.
Leon’s lone goal came in the 63rd minute, as after numerous attempts from Los Esmeraldas, Angel Mena finally beat Rodriguez. Youngster Sebastian Santos made the starting lineup, with Federico Vinas providing the assist for Mena’s comfortable finish inside the penalty area.
